Bosnia Floods

“The consequences…are terrifying”

According to a Reuters news report yesterday, Bosnian Foreign Minister Zlatko Lagumdzija told a news conference. “The physical destruction is not less than the destruction caused by the war.”

Lagumdzija said more than 100,000 houses and other buildings in Bosnia were no longer fit to use and that over a million people had been cut off from clean water supplies.
“During the war, many people lost everything,” he said. “Today, again they have nothing.”

Mercy-USA has a permanent field office and staff who have been working in Bosnia since 1994; and are mobilized to provide immediate relief to the devastation resulting from the worst floods to hit the country in recorded history. Mercy-USA’s Bosnia Program Officer, Alma Duspara told us, “We saw this kind of devastation some 20 years ago with the war, but some people are saying that these floods and landslides are worse than the war because the water and mud took everything in an instant.”
We’re rushing family relief kits out to affected families straightaway. Kits include food, bottled water, canned milk, blankets, hygiene and laundry necessities to help ease families through the early days of this natural disaster crisis.
You can help!
$100 will provide a relief kit to one family.
