The Communications Committee of the Islamic Council is charged with the responsibility of maintaining open lines of communications with all segments of the pluralistic society that we live in. Communications are maintained by direct contact, all media and internet services. The objectives of the communications are to promote a positive image of Islam and to counteract the negative stereotype. To achieve these ends it has utilized three strategies:
1. Intra-Muslim Dialogue. To ensure that the Muslim community was essentially in agreement on all major issues a series of interactive dialogues were held in which topics that generated some controversy within the Muslim community were brought up for discussion in an open civil forum. If consensus could be achieved this was always a welcome outcome. If not, all participants gained from learning about the acceptable range of interpretations within the broad framework of Islam, and accepted the differences in agreement without being disagreeable.

2.Proactive Statements. In order to ensure that the general public is correctly informed about Islam’s position on selected issues position statements and op-eds are circulated
3. Reactive rebuttals are submitted to combat the tsunami of Islamophobia that are flooding the media
Past correspondence of the Council can be seen under the ‘ARCHIVES’
Ongoing efforts are focused on soliciting articles of relevance from members of the Muslim community for uploading to the Council Website. These should be sent to Dr Abdul Cader Asmal and Dr Abdel Rahman Mohammed Co-Chairs of the Communications Committee
