I am grateful to God, SWT to be given this opportunity to serve this year as the President of the Islamic Council of New England. Serving the New England Muslim community is an important commitment and great responsibility for which I seek your support to meet the challenges of this office. The Council has a wealth of dedicated people with intellectual talent, wisdom and experience that uniquely qualifies this body to serve as a platform for regional Muslim organizations, and fulfill its mission of promoting the social and moral well being of society. continue reading

THE CHALLENGES FACING THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY IN THE US

These are not unique to Muslims but are representative of similar problems that confronted almost all previous nascent immigrant communities – these include a sense of suspicion, distrust, and fear that then lead to marginalization of and bigotry against them. Muslims are no exceptions to the ‘rites of passage’ that notably included the Irish, the Catholics, Jews, Latinos, and has never been far from the side-lined African American community, and the totally ignored Native Americans. So any fear or resentment that Muslims feel needs to be tempered by these realizations.

FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR CARMEN ORTIZ, FORMER US ATTORNEY

Carmen Ortiz, US Attorney for the District of Massachusetts resigned from her post as of January 13, 2017.

While US Attorney, Carmen did an outstanding job of reaching out to the Muslim Community; visiting various mosques and Islamic Centers and ensuring that the concerns of various communities were addressed. She was also instrumental, while working through BRIDGES in fostering dialogue between community groups and various law enforcement agencies at the Federal, state and city level.continue reading
